Something like 15% of the World's population are left handed but left
handed golfers are rarer - something like 10% of players.
Golf teachers,
trainers and instructors, plus the vast majority of training videos and
DVDs are right handed so do not show left handed techniques. How easy have
you found it to find tips, advice and instruction videos/DVDs to help you
to improve & perfect your swing? So you learn to play right handed, not left handed,
take for example Greg Norman or Curtis Strange. With the overwhelming amount
of right handed instructional material, you may feel that playing right
handed is the 'correct' way to play golf. Playing right handed
may seem more natural to a left hander as you are leading with your left.
Have you, as a lefty golfer, found it easy to buy left handed
golf clubs?
Leftys are often at a disadvantage it seems, a lack of good instructional materials, a smaller variety of equipment than than for right handed players. It is also claimed that golf courses favour right handers, the way tees and holes are angled, positioning of obstacles and so on. But there are successful left handed golfers, some of whom are actually right handed in the other aspects of their life - Mike Weir, Steve Flesch and Phil Mickelson are examples who spring to mind. Apart from Weir and Mikelson, the only other left handed golfer who has won a major championship is Bob Charles. Some other well known lefty golfers are, Greg Chalmers, Kevin Wentworth and Russ Cochran. By the way, when did you last see a lady golfer playing left handed?
